Powers (or Perks) are special abilities the player hybrid can use.

Overview

genome

In the game, players can use Powers as a means of dealing damage or providing additional effects for their hybrid. Each power has a unique effect, although some may have similar utilities. Some powers have a duration and will expire after a certain amount of time.

Genomes and Perk leveling

When a player upgrades one of their stats 6 times, they will receive one Genome, used to unlock and level up Perks. The process adds a mix of increased Perk potency and reduced use cost. As of current (Aka the second iteration of the Perk Update, version unlisted), the upgrades cap out at level 15, as going any higher does not make any effect.

The cost to upgrade a Perk increases dramatically as it's level gets higher (Equations unlisted), but there is also a player level-based cost reduction mechanic implemented, so it might be recommended for players to grind for levels so investing in perks is less costly. However, this is still to be tested, as there are no graphs showing if this investment is worth the effort.

Managing Perks

At the start of the game, players only have access to one power slot. However, once a second Perk is obtained, a secondary slot will unlock. To assign powers to slots, players can access the Manage Powers button, which will lead to the Powers Menu.

The Powers Menu shows the following content:

  • The Perk Map containing all currently added Perks in groups
  • Showcase of all unlocked and locked Perks, as well as their levels
  • Perk connection paths (Locking certain Perks behind progression)
  • Genome tab, with current Genome count and Spend button
  • A display of currently in-use Perks

Interacting with the menu also shows:

  • Perk Management Boxes containing information about each perk, along with the Perk Slot Selection tab

Power Energy

Power Energy dictates whether or not the player can use a Perk based on the Perk's cost. Currently, it regenerates at a constant rate of around 4-5 units a second and can be increased in capacity by wearing Wizard Hats. The speed may be increased by upgrading the Energy Recharge stat, though due to suspicions, further testing is required.

Bugged "Powers"

During Update 200562, a few bugged "powers" were accidentally accessible, but they were later corrected.

With the exception of Firestorm which was a WIP perk at the time, these are actually status effects found in the game to some capacity. As such, they are applied directly to the player and usually result in more harm than good due to damage default being set to Instant Kill (Displayed with a 999 damage bubble).

  • Squish: Gives your player hybrid the Squish effect, which is what happens to rat-roaches in Critter Crush and during old iterations of the Giant perk.
  • Ignite: Applies the Ignite effect to your player hybrid, causing continuous fire damage. The normal version of the effect can be found in Lava and Magma Swords.
  • Freeze: Gives your player hybrid the Freeze effect, akin to Sticky Web's effect. It can also be found as the Ice Sword's effect.
  • Firestorm: Displayed as five small, spiraling trails of flame spinning around the player. The current version refined the effect display while removing the stackability of both damage and range.

Trivia

  • Due to an oversight with the Black Hole/Aether Banish abilities, the effect can trigger with ANY damaging attack, including damaging Perks, which can cause the effect on any entity, creatures and ores included. Be aware that this category also includes Companions.
  • When the player uses Giant and kills another creature, EXP is not gained. So far this is the second Giant nerf, aside from prohibition of use in PvP. (First removed their ability to instakill and nerfed EXP gain to 1)
  • The only way to trigger the Shindo Guards into attacking you is to use damaging Perks such as Fireball, Forceful Push, Ram, etc... The same rules also apply to damaging Companions, though it's usually not recommended to do so.
